Princes' Islands (Adalar) are in the Sea of Marmara where no motor vehicles are allowed. It is also one of the best Istanbul day trips to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life.
Buyukada is largest of the Princes islands. There are several historical buildings on Büyükada, such as the Hagia Yorgi Church and Monastery dating back to the 6th century, the Ayios Dimitrios Church, and the Hamidiye Mosque -built by Abdul Hamid II-. Around Dock Square you will also see many places to rent bicycles, which is the second-best way to explore the island after hiring a horse-drawn carriage.
Heybeliada is the second largest of the Princes' Islands. There are many lovely Ottoman era wooden houses and an 11th-century Greek Orthodox monasteryat the top of the central mountain.
