The Secrets of Golden Horn: Fener & Balat Walking Trip
Your Fener and Balat walking tour begins with a hotel pick-up around 08:30 am. To experience the city like a local, we will take a short ride on the iconic tram line to reach the historic shores of the Golden Horn.

Our exploration starts in the vibrant streets of Balat, where we will discover a diverse religious heritage, including ancient synagogues, Armenian churches, and Romanic churches. Along the way, you will witness significant Byzantine remnants and visit the sacred Ayazma of Blachernae.

The journey continues into the Fener district, the spiritual heart of the Greek Orthodox world. Here, we will visit the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate and the magnificent St. Stephen Bulgarian Church—the only church in the world constructed entirely of iron and steel.

Next, we will drive along the legendary Byzantine City Walls to explore the historic fortifications, the impressive ruins of the Byzantine Tekfur Palace, and the historic Armenian Church of Surp Hresdagabet. This deep dive into Istanbul's multi-cultural history concludes with a return to your hotel around 17:30.
